The Fall season is a perfect time to nurture, replenish and release! Release the heat and intensity of summer, replenish your reserves to make it through the cold of winter and nurture yourself with self-care habits. Habits that support your well-being.
Habits such as:
- Going to bed before 10:00p
- Waking at sunrise
- Eat warm cooked foods; cold raw foods are harder to digest
- Keep good company; spend time with others that nourish and uplift you
- Avoid or decrease your caffeine intake
- Try restorative yoga or gentle therapeutic yoga
Here is a great beverage to try through out the winter. In yoga circles, it is called “Ojas Milk”. Ojas is a substance in your body that is life-sustaining. It builds immunity, stamina, healthy digestion, radiant skin and allows for optimal health. All of the above listed activities promote the increase of Ojas!
Ojas Milk for One
1 cup almond milk
10 almonds, soaked overnight, peeled and chopped
2 whole dates, chopped
1/4 teaspoon powdered ginger
1/4 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon powdered cardamom
1/4 teaspoon poppy seeds
Pinch of saffron
Place all ingredients (except saffron) in a saucepan. Bring to a low boil. You can use a standing blender or immersion blender to blend the mixture to a creamy consistency. Pour in a mug and add a pinch of saffron.
